Simple trick to make your hydrangeas a stunning blue colour this summer

If you have ever wanted your hydrangeas to be a gorgeous blue shade, then you are in luck, as a gardening expert has said that using a common leftover kitchen item can make them especially vibrant

Everyone is on the lookout for easy ways to make their garden look better and brighter – especially tips and tricks that don’t involve much work or break the bank.

And now, King Charles’ former gardener, Jack Stooks, has revealed his unusual hack for making your hydrangeas a gorgeous blue shade.

Jack Stooks explains that if you want your hydrangeas to turn really blue, you should add a spoonful of coffee to the soil.

“Coffee is also great for acid-loving plants, such as hydrangeas. If you want a really blue hydrangea in your garden, you would want to feed it these coffee grounds. The coffee will be used as feed within the pots.” He explained.

Jack, who worked at the King’s Highgrove for more than two decades, also reveals that coffee can be used as an insect repellent in the summer months, suggesting putting it in pots near your outdoor seating area to keep those pesky mosquitoes away. And while it works to keep those bugs away, it can also attract worms into your garden – which he insists is a good thing.

“Coffee grounds are also really good for bringing worms into the garden. They can be used to create air and in turn, helping the soil overall,” he said on behalf of Coffee Friend.

And it turns out that your old coffee grounds might even be able to save you cash, as you can use them instead of those pricey fertilisers.

“Coffee grounds can be used in the garden as a fertiliser. Like most fertilisers, it consists of the elements NPK, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. You can sprinkle it all over the borders for home use. As you don’t tend to have too much of it, you just find an area within the border, and be selective in small areas, until all of the borders have been covered,” Jack explained.
