Special Session with Sanjiv Mehta, Author & Former Chairman & M.D., HUL held Today, 05.05.2026 at The Park Hotel
Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry organised a Special Session on ‘An Odyssey of a CEO in Building India’s top FMCG Company’ with Shri Sanjiv Mehta, Former Chairman and Managing Director, Hindustan Unilever Limited, TODAY (5 May 2026) at 3.30 pm at The Park Hotel. The Session included the launch of Shri Sanjiv Mehta’s book, ‘A CEO’s Brew Stirred with passion, purpose and humbition’ (which is a confluence of humility and ambition).
The Fireside Chat was moderated by Smt. Jashodhara Chakraborti, Author.
Shri Sanjiv Mehta said that good, successful planning is purely talent management. There is nothing better than talent management in succession planning. Ethics and integrity are key principles for creating a valuable entity.
Corporations should take possible steps to minimise the risk of an accident. The safety of people is of prime importance, and the sanctity of the environment should be maintained, which is a responsibility of the Corporation. Money should not come in the way.
The philosophy of work-life balance has to be earned. If a person works well, then there is no one to see when the person is coming and leaving.
Today, corporations have the technology to work remotely. However, a factory manager cannot do work by sitting at home.
Shri Mehta shared that work is not measured by inputs but by the output. There is a need for devolving authorities to a person.
He also added that there is a need to work hard. For people, there are extrinsic and intrinsic motivators. Extrinsic motivators are how to raise the market capitalization, while intrinsic motivators are how to keep one’s wife happy.

Earlier, Shri Munish Jhajharia, Senior Vice President, MCCI, in her Welcome Address, said that Shri Mehta, in his book, dwells on his journey to make transnational Hindustan Unilever (HUL) one of the most valuable firms in the FMCG landscape of India. The book reflects his passion and integrity in steering the company to great heights.
Smt. Sureka quoted from Shri Mehta’s book and said that “combining passion and purpose forms a powerful synergy. When leaders are driven by passion and guided by purpose, they empower their teams to reach new heights”.
The session ended with a hearty Vote of Thanks proposed byShri Anirudh Jhunjhunwala, Vice President, MCCI, and he thanked Shri Mehta for his words of corporate wisdom and gracious presence.
