Romeo Beckham made his Met Gala debut on Monday night in New York, while estranged brother Brooklyn Beckham reportedly stayed in Los Angeles amid the ongoing Beckham family feud
Romeo Beckham made his Met Gala debut on Monday, showing off his modelling credentials in a sharp Burberry outfit. However, while Romeo, 23, rocked the red carpet on his own, speculation swirled over a possible encounter with estranged brother Brooklyn Beckham.
The brothers have been caught up in a widely reported family rift after Brooklyn criticised their parents, David and Victoria, for ‘controlling his life and causing him huge embarrassment.’ The couple’s eldest son has graced several Met Galas over the years – both solo and alongside wife Nicola Peltz Beckham.
However, the pair chose to sidestep any uncomfortable run-in with Romeo by giving the event a wide berth. With Brooklyn, 27, and Nicola, 31, staying put in Los Angeles, it was Romeo’s moment to shine in New York.
Twelve years after his parents’ last gala appearance, Romeo stepped up to represent the family name. The 23 year old has established himself as a familiar face at fashion weeks throughout the last 18 months. And he appeared entirely comfortable on the prestigious stage after revealing he is “drawn to more understated looks that still feel powerful”.
Ahead of the occasion, Romeo shared: “My first Met is a special moment for me, so I’ll be taking it all in and appreciating every detail.”
He went on to say: “I’ve always loved seeing how people interpret the dress codes–it’s incredible how varied and individual each look can be.”
Brooklyn was notably absent from his second consecutive Met Gala this year and has remained tight-lipped about his absence in the days following. The development comes as he continues to distance himself from the Beckham family brand, reports the Mirror.
Following his blistering statement about his parents and their alleged shortcomings, Brooklyn has chosen to steer clear of any discussion surrounding the fallout. He has frequently missed important family occasions, including his father’s 51st birthday most recently. Reports also suggest he has blocked his family on Instagram, including his brother Romeo.
Last month, Victoria, who was reportedly devastated by Brooklyn’s Instagram remarks, broke her silence on the family rift with her son and Nicola, insisting that she and David have always sought to protect their children.
In his damning accusations, Brooklyn claimed his mother and father had “constantly disrespected” his wife Nicola, sparking a significant family rupture with scant signs of reconciliation on the horizon.
He went on to say he had no interest in reconnecting with the family in future. His priority, he stated, was building a life with his wife and establishing their own family unit.
When the former Spice Girl was asked directly about the disagreement between her family and son Brooklyn, she sidestepped mentioning him by name but said: “I think that we’ve always – we love our children so much.
“We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be. And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it.”
