Kevin Bacon says he was attacked by bees while hiking with daughter Sosie Bacon: “They went full-on after me”

Kevin Bacon learned the hard way that even a peaceful family hike can go sideways when bees get involved.

The Footloose actor shared on Instagram this week that he was swarmed by bees while hiking with his daughter, Sosie Bacon, and her partner, Scoot McNairy.

“Scoot was in the front, Sosie was in the middle, and I was holding up the rear,” Bacon said. “Scoot points out to the left that there’s a beehive over there, and Sosie says, ‘Dad, hey, there’s a beehive, watch out.’”

Despite the warning, Bacon ended up taking the brunt of the attack.

“So these bees, they must not have liked my work or something, ’cause they left the two of them alone and they went full-on after me,” he joked. “‘Let’s attack KB.’ Bees stinging me everywhere, including underneath my shirt.”

The story was painful, but Bacon managed to find some humor in it. He said his daughter thoughtfully chose not to record what he described as his frantic reaction in the moment.

“Now, it was very nice of my daughter to not take out her phone and start videoing this epic beesting dance that I was doing,” Bacon said. “But I asked her if there was any way that she could recreate it from memory.”

The video then cuts to Sosie acting out her father’s bee-dodging routine from the safety of home. After saying, “There’s bees in there,” she launches into a dramatic impression, waving her arms, tossing her cap, and struggling to peel off her sweatshirt as though the swarm had returned.

“It was nothing more, nothing less than that very dance,” Sosie wrote in the comments.

Bacon’s wife, Kyra Sedgwick, clearly enjoyed the reenactment, commenting, “Soooooo gooood!!” Mary Steenburgen also chimed in with her own review: “Perfect!!!! Love to you all!!!”

The family recently brought their chemistry to the screen in Family Movie, which stars Bacon, Sedgwick, Sosie, and her brother, Travis Bacon.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly at the South by Southwest premiere in March, Sosie admitted she had some initial concerns about working so closely with her family.

“I had reservations for sure,” she said. “I think we all were concerned that, you know, things would come up, we would get into arguments… little tensions and stuff would arise in the situation because we’re on set.”

Travis said those worries never materialized.

“It felt extremely collaborative and felt like everybody’s voices were heard. I think everybody’s voices are seen and heard in the film as well… It was magical.”

At least on set, the only buzz came from the family dynamic.
