Prisoner Accused of Murder Escapes Malir Jail Karachi During Marka-e-Haq Celebrations

A prisoner accused of kidnapping and murdering a citizen in Karachi has escaped from Malir Jail.

The suspect, identified as Naveed alias Polka, was allegedly involved in the kidnapping and murder of a citizen within the limits of Joharabad police station. He had been arrested by Joharabad police a few days earlier.

According to officials, the suspect went missing from Malir Jail after a ceremony related to Marka-e-Haq. When jail authorities conducted a headcount after the event, they found one prisoner missing.

Police said Naveed had allegedly kidnapped a trader named Rehan and later killed him. A body of an abducted person was also recovered on the suspect’s identification after his arrest.

Officials said Naveed had also been arrested in the past in connection with the murder case of journalist Wali Babar. However, he was later acquitted in that case due to lack of evidence.

The escape has raised fresh questions about security arrangements at Malir Jail.

Last year, more than 200 prisoners had escaped from the same prison. Authorities later increased security at the jail after the mass escape.

Police and jail officials are expected to investigate how the suspect managed to flee despite the enhanced security measures.
