Bank Account Rules Change: A major update has come for HDFC Bank account holders. The largest private sector bank has decided to amend the rules related to cash deposits of small notes and coins for current accounts. This will directly impact account holders. According to the bank’s official website, a free limit will now be fixed every month for deposits of small notes and coins.
Earlier, there was no fixed limit on deposits of small denomination notes (notes and coins of Rs 20 or less). But this will no longer be the case. Now, a free limit will be fixed. A fee will have to be paid only if cash is deposited beyond this limit. However, this will depend on the type of current account. The new rules will come into effect from June 1, 2026.
What will be the limits for notes and coins?
Under the new rules, the limit for cash deposits in notes for small denominations has been set at ₹10,000 per month. A 2% fee will be charged for deposits exceeding this limit. The limit for cash deposits in coins has now been set at ₹5,000. A 2% charge will be levied for deposits exceeding this limit.
This change will apply to various account types, including the Biz Lite+ Current Account, Ascent Current Account, Max Advantage Current Account, Plus Current Account, Premium Current Account, Regular Current Account, Agri Current Account, Current Account for Professionals, E-Commerce Current Account, Trade Current Account, Flexi Current Account, Ultima Current Account, and Supreme Current Account. The bank has also released a list of these.
What are the current rules?
Currently, there is no limit on small-value cash deposits at any HDFC Bank branch. However, a 4% fee is levied on cash deposits in currency notes. There is also no free limit for coin deposits, but account holders are required to pay a 5% fee.
