Met Eireann pinpoints driest areas with most sun amid rain and cloud


There will be plenty of dry weather this weekend, according to Met Eireann’s latest forecast, but there will also be a lot of cloud and some rain in parts of the country too

It will be a mixed bag of weather conditions this weekend as Met Eireann pinpoints where will see the best of the dry weather and sunshine.

Today (Friday May 8th) will be mainly cloudy, with some sunny spells and scattered showers.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: “A cloudier day overall today with some limited sunny spells. Scattered showers will mainly affect Munster, Leinster and east Ulster with the odd heavy one possible.

“The showers will become more isolated through the evening. Highest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees in mainly light northerly or variable winds.

“Mainly dry with clear spells [tonight], although some cloud may linger in the south. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 8 degrees in light to moderate northerly winds.”

Tomorrow (Saturday May 9th) will be mainly dry, but it will turn “rather chilly” at night.

Met.ie says: “Dry for most tomorrow with sunny spells, though cloudier conditions in southern parts may give a little patchy rain near the south-west coast. Breezy with a moderate to fresh northerly wind and highest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees.

“Mainly dry with clear spells [on Saturday night], though cloud may linger for a time in the far south. Rather chilly with lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees in moderate northerly winds.”

Sunday (May 10th) will see “plenty of dry weather with sunny spells.”

“Cloud will increase in the north through the day with the possibility of isolated showers. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees, coolest in the north, in a moderate northerly breeze.

“Cloud and light showers moving into northern parts overnight while remaining dry elsewhere with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 8 degrees in light north to northwest winds.”

Looking to next week’s weather, Monday (May 11th) will see “a good deal of cloud” with highs of 12 to 14 degreees, Tuesday (May 12th) will see some patchy light rain and drizzle, particularly in the north and northeast, while Wednesday (May 13th) is set to be “a cool and blustery day with showers”.
