Uber CEO Meets Telangana CM, Plans to Expand Hyderabad Centre of Excellence

Global ride-hailing giant Uber is set to expand its Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Hyderabad, marking a significant investment in the city’s technology sector. The Hyderabad facility, which is Uber’s first Centre of Excellence outside the United States, currently employs 600 engineers working on critical technology solutions for the company’s global operations. The expansion plans were discussed during a high-level meeting between Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

During the meeting, Khosrowshahi expressed the company’s interest in establishing Uber’s corporate office in Bharat Future City, a proposed integrated township project in Hyderabad. The CEO’s visit underscores the growing importance of Hyderabad as a technology hub and Uber’s commitment to strengthening its presence in India. The Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad has been instrumental in developing innovative solutions for Uber’s platform, contributing to the company’s technological advancement on a global scale.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy utilized the meeting to address pressing urban challenges facing Hyderabad, particularly the city’s escalating parking crisis. The CM suggested that Uber focus on developing multi-level parking hubs and electric vehicle charging facilities near Metro stations across the city. This recommendation aims to tackle the dual challenges of parking shortages and the need for sustainable transportation infrastructure in the rapidly growing metropolitan area.

The proposed collaboration between Uber and the Telangana government could address critical urban mobility issues while supporting the state’s push toward electric vehicle adoption. The establishment of EV charging stations near Metro stations would create an integrated transportation ecosystem, making it easier for commuters to switch between different modes of transport. The expansion of Uber’s operations in Hyderabad is expected to create additional employment opportunities in the technology sector and contribute to the city’s position as a leading IT destination in India.
