The use of Integrated Command, Control and Communication Centre (ICCCC), set up by Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA), is playing an important role in ensuring the safety of pilgrims and smooth helicopter operations, said by (UCADA) chief executive officer, Ashish Chauhan. More than 21,000 pilgrims have used helicopter service for Char Dham Yatra since April 22, he added.
“No fraud complaint has been received so far in helicopter ticket booking. Pilgrims are booking tickets through the official portal,” Chauhan informed. Notably, the control centre has been set up at Sahastradhara Helipad in Dehradun.
“It is keeping a close watch on all helicopter services, even during bad weather,” he said, adding that a six member team from Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India Meteorological Department (IMD) and UCADA is working there. The team is coordinating with Air Traffic Control to make helicopter travel safe and well managed.
“Officials are monitoring helicopter routes, tracking devices, every trip and shuttle services in real time. Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) cameras, installed on all helicopter routes, are also helping officials keep watch on take-off and landing. This allows quick action during any emergency,” he said.
CEO Chauhan further said that modern technology is being used to make the Char Dham helicopter journey safer, easier and better organised. “Similar control centres have also been set up at Sirsi in Rudraprayag district,” he stated.
“Every helicopter flight is being checked in real time. Weather conditions, visibility and passenger safety are being closely watched before giving permission for each service,” he added.
