TCS Nashik Corporate Jihad: AIMIM Corporator named co-accused

Nashik: City Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik has confirmed that after TCS case prime accused Nida Khan was arrested on Thursday (May 7) from the Naregaon area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the local AIMIM corporator Matin Majid Patel has now been made an accused in the case for secretly sheltering a suspect while on the run, evading arrest by police. He will face aiding and abetment charges in the cae as it goes ahead.

“In connection with crime No. 156/26 registered at the Deolali Camp Police Station in Nashik, accused Nida Khan had applied for anticipatory bail, which was rejected by the honourable court. In a joint operation, the Nashik City Police and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar City Police arrested Nida Khan yesterday from the Naregaon area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar<” Commissioner Karnik told mediapersons.

“She was allegedly being sheltered by local corporator Matin Majid Patel in Naregaon. Accordingly, he has also been made an accused in the case. I thank Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Commissioner of Police Praveen Pawar for his support and efforts in the operation,” Karnik added.

Nida Khan was arrested from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in the post sunset hours and the country’s laws have certain formalities and conditions that need to be fulfilled before proceeding to arrest a woman accused/suspect in the late hours. The police teams of Nashik and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and the SIT, Crime Branch teams first fulfilled those conditions before formally arresting Nida Khan. She was taken before the Magistrate in CSnagar for transit remand to bring her to Nashik and was on Friday (today, may 8) presented before the Magistrate in the Sessions Court where she has now been granted Police Custody Till Monday May 11.

Who helped Nida Hide and where?

While in hiding, Nida Khan had applied for interim relief and anticipatory bail in the case to avoid arrest and while claiming innocence also stated her pregnancy as the reason to seek relief.

Last week (on May 4), denying anticipatory bail to Nida Khan in the now well-known case containing allegations of forced religious conversion and sexual harassment, the Nashik Sessions Court said that Khan gave “burqa” to the victim, trained her for offering of “Namaz”, which showed a “systematic brainwashing” of the victim. Earlier, on May 2, the Additional Sessions Judge Kedar Joshi in his order, had refused to grant interim bail to the accused.

On May 7, acting on a tip-off, Maharashtra Police conducted a discreet surveillance operation at a house in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. After closely monitoring the location for nearly two days, officers confirmed the presence of absconding accused Nida Khan and arrested her before evening.

She had reportedly been staying at the residence with her parents, brother, and aunt for the past few days. To avoid attracting attention, the police team operated in plain clothes and did not use official vehicles during the surveillance and arrest.

According to reports, Khan was planning to move a bail application in the High Court, but police took her into custody before she could do so. The operation was carried out jointly by the Nashik Special Investigation Team (SIT), the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Police Commissionerate, and the Crime Branch.

Following her detention and completion of legal formalities, Khan was produced before a Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for transit remand. She was subsequently taken to Nashik for further interrogation and legal proceedings.

All who harbour accused and hinder investigations in any of our cases will face legal action, Sandeep Karnik, the Commissioner of Nashik City has warned.
