Nashik: In a sudden and significant development in the Nashik TCS ‘Corporate Jihad’ case, prime accused and absconder Nida Khan was arrested by the Nashik police from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad) on Thursday evening. She is expected to be produced before a magistrate in accordance with legal procedure.
Sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, claimed that Khan had been sheltered by an individual allegedly close to Imtiaz Jaleel, a prominent leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). However, this claim has not been officially confirmed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) or the Nashik Commissioner’s Office, both of which are currently focused on legal formalities following the arrest.
Nida Khan had been on the run for last 25 days plus since multiple cases linked to alleged sexual harassment, mental abuse and attempted religious conversion at the Nashik-based BPO unit came to light. Police had launched an extensive manhunt, forming multiple teams to trace her movements across Maharashtra.
Background of the Case
The case, which has come to be referred to by some as the “Corporate Jihad” case, pertains to allegations of targeted harassment, coercion, and possible exploitation within a corporate environment in Nashik, involving employees linked to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
Several victims, most of them women aged between 18 and 25, have complained that they were subjected to harassment which includes molestation, unwanted touching, obscene comments, stalking, sexual exploitation on the pretext of marriage and repeated remarks targeting their personal lives and inability to have children.
According to initial complaints and subsequent police investigations, the case revolves around certain individuals of Muslim faith who used personal relationships and professional leverage to influence, manipulate, or pressure Hindu colleagues to abuse their own faith and coerced to adopt Islam.
Authorities had earlier registered a case based on multiple complaints, following which an SIT was constituted to probe the matter in detail. Nida Khan, named as a key accused, had reportedly been absconding, prompting intensified search operations across Maharashtra.
Police are in possession of clinching evidence that points to Nida Khan’s role and that is why the court refused her application for Interim Bail and Anticipatory bail. There is also a sinister angle of human trafficking that is emerging as the probe progresses and the latest development is an accusation that a certain individual was drugged before being pushed into conversion, an allegation that the police is probing.
Investigation and Developments
According to police, at least nine FIRs have been registered against several employees, including Danish Sheikh, Tausif Attar, Raza Memon, Shahrukh Qureshi, Shafi Shaikh, Asif Ansari and others. Nida Khan, who was initially believed to be an HR official but was later identified as a telecaller, has also been named as an accused.
So far, among those arrested are Danish Sheikh, Tausif Attar, Raza Memon, Shahrukh Qureshi, Shafi Shaikh, Asif Ansari and Ashwin Chainani, who was associated with the POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) committee. Nida Khan was arrested on Thursday.
Police sources indicate that Khan’s arrest is expected to provide crucial leads in the case, particularly regarding the alleged network of individuals involved and the nature of the accusations. Her custodial interrogation may shed further light on whether the case involves organised wrongdoing or isolated incidents.
Officials have so far maintained a cautious stance, refraining from confirming unverified claims circulating in sections of the media and on social platforms. The SIT is expected to present its findings based strictly on evidence gathered during the investigation.
Political Undercurrents
The case has also acquired a political dimension, with references being made to individuals allegedly linked to political figures. The mention of a possible connection to someone close to Imtiaz Jaleel has added to the controversy, although no formal statement has been issued by him or his party.
