Those in receipt of social welfare payments are being reminded that there will be a shake up to the usual payment schedule this week – here’s everything you need to know
Social welfare recipients should be aware as there is a shake up to the payment schedule on the way.
June 1st marks June bank holiday Monday in just a matter of days.
Because of this, banks and post offices will be closed on that day.
This means that anyone expecting a social welfare payment on the 1st will most likely be paid early. It is expected that you will see your payment land in your account on Friday the 29th or Saturday the 30th of May.
Because of the bank holiday, anyone in receipt of Child Benefit on the 2nd of June will most likely also be paid early, on the Friday or Saturday also. This is to ensure that no one receives a late payment as a result of the banks being closed.
The full list of bank and public holidays remaining in 2026 are as follows:
- 1st June (June bank holiday)
- 3rd August (August bank holiday)
- 26th October (October bank holiday)
- 25th December (Christmas Day 2026)
- 26th December (St Stephen’s Day 2026)
There was just a schedule shake up in recent weeks for the May bank holiday weekend. In a statement, the government confirmed the changes.
On their website, the Department of Social Protection, wrote: “Monday 4 May is a Bank Holiday and as a result, any social welfare payments due to be in your account on Monday 4 May will now be paid on Friday 1 May instead. Payments will be paid as normal on Tuesday 5 May.
“All Intreo Centres and Branch Offices will be closed on Bank Holiday Monday 4 May. Intreo Centres and Branch Offices will reopen on Tuesday 5 May.”
It comes as the Carer’s Support Grant will be paid in a matter of days, with the lump sum due to land in accounts on the first Thursday of June. This year, that will be the 4th.
The Department of Social Protection (DSP) pays the Carer’s Support Grant to carers once a year. It was previously known as the Respite Care Grant. The grant can be used however you see fit. While it can be used to cover respite care costs, it isn’t mandatory to do so. Only one Carer’s Support Grant can be paid per person receiving care.
It is automatically given to those receiving Carer’s Allowance (both full rate and half-rate), Carer’s Benefit and Domiciliary Care Allowance. More recipients are set to benefit from the payment as one of the automatic schemes will alter its criteria this year.
