RTÉ issues statement as Fair City fans notice actor has been replaced

Fair City viewers have been left confused after the star who plays the character of Lorcan Jr was mysteriously replaced by another actor on the RTÉ soap opera recently

Fair City fans have been left confused after a show star was suddenly replaced in recent scenes.

Actor Tom Gould joined the RTÉ soap opera last year in the role of Lorcan Jr, Carol Foley’s grandson.

Drama immediately ensued for Carol and Lorcan as it became quite apparent he was a troublemaker.

But under Carol’s supervision, a passion for art and a blossoming romance with Ruby Mullen, Lorcan’s character somewhat softened in recent months.

Lorcan recently went to London with girlfriend Ruby, but upon his return to Carrigstown, fans have noticed he has been recast and a new actor is taking on the role.

A Fair City spokesperson told RSVP Live: “We had to recast the actor who plays Lorcan, which can happen from time to time on Fair City. The role of Lorcan Foley Jr is now being played by John Kearney.”

This isn’t the first time a recast has suddenly occurred on the show.

In recent times, Aoife Bawle replaced Ciana Howlin as Jess Mullen, and the role of Zoe Allen was first played by actress Lauren Kinsella before Connie Donna took over.

Actor John has gotten off to a busy start as Lorcan Jr is caught up in a lot of drama at the moment as Carol and JJ try to get rid of Detective Buckley, who is looking for Steo.

On Thursday night’s episode, JJ swerves Carol’s suspicion as he hides his true plan on the day of Buckley’s raid.

Carol is unsettled when Ger tells her that JJ is not to be trusted.

When Detective Buckley and Garda Knowles overhear Lorcan on the phone to Carol, they realise that JJ isn’t in the bookies that Ger said he would be, and that was a distraction from the cash drop actually taking place in the local bookies.

Buckley makes a call to get an emergency warrant stat.

Carol is horrified when JJ admits that he is taking the cash drop in the Carraigstown bookies.

When Lorcan turns up to ask Carol for his festival money, JJ is horrified to hear that he was stopped by Knowles and Buckley on his way and he told them he was coming to the bookies to see JJ.

Carol rings Victor to get to the bookies as quickly as possible and meet around the back.

Carol tells JJ that she’ll deal with the cash and he can deal with Buckley.

Buckley turns up and orders all the punters to leave the bookies.

JJ tries to stall him but Buckley produces the warrant and orders him to open the safe door.

After the failed bust a furious Buckley confronts Ger but she scoffs at them for being fooled by JJ.

Ger insists she gave them sound information and she still wants her end of the deal honoured.

Carol and JJ finally relax with Buckley’s threats behind them, but Carol is spooked when Lorcan presses her on what was really going on in the bookies. Carol dismisses his questions, but Lorcan remains suspicious.
