Rajdhani Express Fire: A coach of the Rajdhani Express caught fire in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday morning (May 17). No casualties have been reported in the incident. A railway official said passengers were evacuated from the train immediately after the fire broke out. “A coach of the Rajdhani Express caught fire in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh. Ratlam Division Public Relations Officer Mukesh Kumar said the fire broke out in the B-1 coach of the Thiruvananthapuram-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express (12431) between Alot and Lunirichha stations at around 5:15 am on Sunday. He said no casualties have been reported in the incident, which occurred in the Kota Railway Division. Kumar said the fire was brought under control by separating the coach from the train.
He said the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Ratlam has reached the spot. An accident relief train from Ratlam has also arrived. Saurabh Jain, senior commercial manager of the Kota division, said that there were 68 passengers in the coach. He added that all passengers were evacuated from the train.
Panic on the train after the fire
Panic gripped the Thiruvananthapuram-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express early Sunday morning. The fire was reported in one of its coaches while the train was passing through Ratlam district in Madhya Pradesh. Railway officials stated that the incident occurred in the B-1 coach of train number 12431 between Luni Richha and Vikramgarh Alot stations under the Kota division of West Central Railway.
Sixty-eight passengers were inside the coach when smoke and flames were observed. According to officials, the train guard first noticed the fire and immediately informed the loco pilot, following which the train was stopped. Evacuation measures were then initiated. As a precaution, the overhead power supply was cut off, while the affected coach was isolated from the rest of the train to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Upon receiving the information about the incident, Railway Protection Force personnel, along with railway staff on board, began evacuating passengers. Officials said the entire coach was evacuated in about 15 minutes. “All passengers in the affected coach were safely evacuated. There were no injuries to any passenger or railway staff, nor were there any casualties. The OHE (overhead electric) supply was immediately cut off. The affected B-1 coach was detached from the rest of the train,” the West Central Railway Kota division said in a statement.
Following the incident, rescue and relief teams from the railway division were immediately dispatched to the scene. The fire also disrupted train operations on the busy Delhi-Mumbai route for approximately two hours. Officials stated that the exact cause of the fire is still unknown. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause.
