PTI has confirmed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Sohail Afridi and party chairperson Barrister Gohar Ali Khan met Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, with the party saying that the meeting centred on terrorism in KP, particularly in Bannu.
PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram told a private media outlet that the interior minister “Mostly discussed how terrorism can be controlled,” during the meeting. The confirmation came after Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, took to X to flag the meeting, saying, “Barrister Gohar and Sohail Afridi met Mohsin Naqvi. Our family had no knowledge of this meeting and neither was any family member present”.
Akram also clarified that Aleema Khan was not part of the meeting, adding that only CM Afridi and Barrister Gohar were present. The meeting, according to sources, took place on May 14 at night at Barrister Gohar’s residence, with Afridi arriving without a protocol vehicle.
A senior PTI leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said one of the key areas of discussion was allowing Imran Khan to meet his family and party leaders and getting him medical treatment at a hospital outside Adiala Jail.
Islamabad High Court had previously allowed Imran twice-a-week meetings with family, lawyers and associates, though he has been restricted from receiving visitors for several weeks.
PTI has also been pushing for his transfer to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for treatment of a right central retinal vein occlusion, an eye condition that surfaced in late January.
The same PTI leader added that Naqvi made it clear during the meeting that the KP CM “was not in the list of the favourite people”. He also recalled that Imran had previously expressed annoyance when former KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur had met Naqvi, a photo of which had been made public.
CM Afridi later posted on X that the meeting was about “terrorist incidents in Bannu and the province’s law and order situation,” saying no political discussions took place.
Earlier this week, when asked at a press conference whether he had met an “important personality”, Afridi had replied: “I can meet anyone for Imran Khan”.
