NEW DELHII: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports has summoned National Testing Agency (NTA) Chairperson Pradeep Kumar Joshi along with senior Education Ministry officials for questioning and review discussions on May 21. According to reports, the parliamentary panel, headed by Digvijaya Singh, will review the implementation of reforms suggested by the K Radhakrishnan Committee, which was formed after earlier controversies surrounding national entrance examinations. The committee has also summoned Vineet Joshi, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, to discuss the developments related to the controversy and the future roadmap for examination reforms.
The upcoming parliamentary meeting is expected to focus heavily on the accountability mechanisms within the NTA, examination security systems, and reforms aimed at restoring public confidence in centralised entrance examinations.

The National Testing Agency had conducted the NEET UG examination on May 3, with nearly 23 lakh students registering for the medical entrance test. However, allegations of irregularities and paper leak soon surfaced, triggering widespread concern among students and parents. Following the controversy, the agency cancelled the examination. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan later announced that the NEET UG re-examination would be held on June 21. He also stated that from next year onward, the NEET examination will be conducted in a computer based format to improve transparency and reduce the chances of malpractice.
As per sources, apart from the NEET controversy, the committee will also discuss the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education and ways to improve job opportunities for students. Representatives from Anthropic, Pratham, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Infosys, and Indian Institute of Technology Madras will also take part in the discussions. In another session, the panel will meet officials from Aligarh Muslim University and the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions to discuss reservation policies, teacher vacancies, and issues related to the National Education Policy (NEP). The committee will also review reports related to teacher training reforms, the functioning of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), and recommendations connected to the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
With lakhs of students affected by the NEET UG 2026 controversy, the parliamentary review is expected to put the functioning of the NTA under intense scrutiny. The discussions and reforms proposed in the coming days could play a crucial role in restoring trust, transparency, and accountability in India’s examination system.
