Railway Vendors Detained for Dyeing Cucumbers Green at Katihar Station


A video allegedly showing cucumber vendors dyeing pale cucumbers bright green before selling them at Katihar Junction railway station has gone viral on social media. This led to quick action from the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

Officials reported that nine women vendors, including the woman in the video detained for questioning after the video circulated.

Railway vendors arrested for selling dyeing cucumbers

The footage, filmed on platforms 7 and 8 of the station, showed two women sitting together with peeled or pale cucumbers. They applied a bright green dye to these cucumbers before selling them to travelers.

The video caused outrage online after claims emerged that the cucumbers coated with a chemical color to make them look fresher and more appealing to customers buying food during train journeys.

Later visuals from the station displayed RPF personnel seizing baskets filled with cucumbers from various vendors. Several women vendors seen taken into custody for questioning. Videos also captured scenes from the busy railway station, including the station building, crowded platforms, and the DRM office as the issue gained attention.

After the video spread, the RPF at Katihar Railway Station quickly launched an operation against vendors allegedly involved in this practice. The RPF confirmed that the video was authentic and stated that authorities began investigating as soon as the footage appeared online.
