There is no Late Late Show tonight or for the next few months as the chat show takes its annual summer break, however RTÉ viewers can enjoy watching movies instead
The Late Late Show is on its annual summer break and RTÉ One will be airing movies in its place.
Presenter Patrick Kielty signed off from his third season at the helm last Friday night with a jam-packed show including guests Westlife and Garron Noone.
The Late Late Show won’t be back on air until September, and viewers will be able to enjoy blockbuster movies all summer long.
This week, RTÉ One is airing Murder on the Orient Express at 9.35pm.
Starring Kenneth Branagh, Daisy Ridley, Derek Jacobi and Johnny Depp, the movie tells the story of an American businessman found stabbed to death while on a train held up by heavy snow – and there is no shortage of suspects among the passengers.
If that’s not your cup of tea, RTÉ 2 is showing Cyrano, a musical romance starring Peter Dinklage about a poet who is too self-conscious to impress the love of his life.
Over on Virgin Media One, true crime documentary My Boyfriend, My Rapist: The Secret Footage will air while Friday night football is on Virgin Media Two as St Patrick’s Athletic take on Waterford in the League of Ireland.
Meanwhile, RTÉ has yet to confirm if Patrick Kielty will stay on as host of the Late Late Show.
The comedian didn’t address any news of a contract renewal when he signed off last week’s show.
He told viewers at home: “That is it from us for tonight, and for this season, we hope you have a fab summer. This has been the Late Late Show, I’ve been Patrick Kielty, and playing us out tonight, this is Westlife! Goodnight.”
RTÉ sources recently told the Sunday Independent that the general consensus is that Patrick will stay on as host.
However, there has been no official confirmation on his future as of yet.
As the show wrapped up on Friday night, a spokesperson for the national broadcaster said: “As The Late Late Show reaches the end of another successful season, we look forward to the programme returning for its 65th year in the autumn.”
