Faulkner family ask for prayers as ‘miracle boy’ Christopher undergoes surgery


Christopher Faulkner was in a devastating road traffic collision last month, which left him in a critical condition – today he will have surgery at Temple Street Children’s Hospital

The family of Christopher Faulkner, the ten-year-old cousin of tragic siblings Scarlett and Jason Faulkner, have asked for prayers and support as he undergoes surgery today following a devastating road traffic collision last month.

Christopher was in a critical condition after the two-vehicle collision in Antrim on Sunday, April 26. He has since been transferred from Belfast Hospital to Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin.

The crash claimed the life of Callum Hutchinson (16), from Borrisokane, Tipperary, who was travelling in the same car as Christopher.

Two others were injured in the incident, including Christopher.

The driver of the second car, a 29-year-old man, has been charged with several offences, including causing death due to dangerous driving.

The latest tragedy came as the Faulkner family, from Longpavement, Limerick, continue to reel from the heartbreaking deaths of siblings Scarlett and Jason Faulkner within days of each other last month.

Scarlett (28), died in Cork University Hospital on April 12, three weeks after she suffered catastrophic injuries in an alleged roadside assault in Birdhill, Co Tipperary on March 21.

Her older brother Jason (34), who acted as a pallbearer at Scarlett’s funeral, tragically died just two days after Scarlett’s funeral on Sunday, April 19, reports the Irish Mirror.

In an emotional social media post on Friday morning, May 22, Christopher’s relatives asked the public to keep the young boy in their thoughts and prayers as he undergoes surgery today at Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

“Could everyone please keep my nephew Christopher in your prayers today as he has surgery today. Please God and our lovely Lady that everything will go alright for him. Love you our boy,” the relative wrote.

In an earlier update, relatives described Christopher as “a living miracle.”

“Christopher is a living miracle. We will forever thank God, Jesus and our lovely Lady for our miracle,” relatives wrote.

“My sister and brother-in-law asked me to thank everyone from the bottom of their hearts. We will never forget the prayers, love and support shown to our boy.

We will be forever grateful to everyone. God is on your side, our miracle boy.”

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old girl, who cannot be identified because of her age, has been charged in connection with the fatal assault on Scarlett Faulkner on March 21, at the R494 at Birdhill.

A 40-year-old woman, who also can’t be named by order of the court, has also been charged in connection with the assault.

Both remain in custody.

The teenage girl is charged with assault causing serious harm to Ms Faulkner while the woman faces four charges, including violent disorder, reckless endangerment and two counts of burglary.

Last week Nenagh District Court heard a judge’s order for the teenager to be psychologically assessed has yet to be carried out seven weeks after the order was made.

The court also heard a garda investigation file, in respect of the teen’s involvement in the alleged assault on Ms Faulkner has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Both accused are due to appear before Nenagh District Court again on June 12 for directions from the DPP.

Scarlett sustained serious head injuries during the incident. She was transferred to Cork University Hospital and died there three weeks later on April 12.
