Congress has betrayed people’s mandate: TR Baalu – News Today | First with the news

Chennai, May 7:

DMK leader and Lok Sabha MP T. R. Baalu launched a sharp attack on the Indian National Congress for backing Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam to form the government in Tamil Nadu, calling the move a betrayal of the people’s mandate.

In a strongly worded statement, Baalu said the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam had always stood by Congress during politically difficult times, even at great political cost.

He recalled the party’s close ties with leaders including Sonia Gandhi, late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi.

Baalu alleged that Congress had secured its five Assembly victories through the efforts of the DMK-led secular progressive alliance, with voters believing they were supporting a DMK-led government.

He further accused the Congress of embracing “political opportunism” and compared its latest move to strategies often criticised in the BJP.
“At a time when the Congress itself hesitated to officially project Rahul Gandhi as its Prime Ministerial candidate, it was DMK president M. K. Stalin who first proposed his name in Chennai during the 2019 elections,” Baalu said.
