Cate Blanchett Hits Cannes – Go Fug Yourself

I don’t think Cate is in Cannes for any of her own movies; she did a one-on-one chat, and as best I can tell, swung by the premieres of Garance and Paper Tiger for some good old fashioned exposure. During the chat, Cate griped about the early demise of “Me Too” — which is intriguing considering she’s a Polanski and Woody Allen supporter — and complained that gender imbalances on film sets are still stark and how boring that gets for the women. I hate to hear it but am not shocked. And yet, while it should not have to fall to Cate Blanchett to change this, I also would have thought someone like Cate Blanchett WOULD have enough stroke that she COULD work to change that on her projects. If Nicole Kidman can happily outperform her promise to work with female directors, surely we can keep that going.
