Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has said that trauma care, organ donation and nursing excellence are not just topics of medical science but are powerful pillars of humanity’s defence. They symbolise service, sensitivity and responsibility to life, he said. The governor was addressing a programme, “Advanced Trauma Care, Organ Donation and Nursing Excellence” at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh on Tuesday.

The governor said that nursing service is a living embodiment of compassion, dedication and the spirit of motherhood. In critical situations, a nurse becomes not just a healthcare worker but a symbol of trust and support. He said that the nurses are an excellent example of human service in the society.

Highlighting the importance of trauma management, the governor said that the golden hour after an accident is crucial and timely treatment can significantly reduce mortality. He added that the role of effective trauma management becomes even more crucial in a remote and mountainous State like Uttarakhand.
He said that organ donation is the ultimate donation to humanity which gives a person a new lease of life. Singh further said that the AIIMS Rishikesh is strengthening healthcare services by effectively utilising modern technologies such as heli ambulances, telemedicine, artificial intelligence (AI) and drones. He also praised the innovations being made in healthcare in the fields of AI-based technologies, robotics, advanced diagnostics, ophthalmology and dentistry.

The institute’s executive director Dr Meenu Singh informed that it has successfully performed 23 kidney transplants and one liver transplant so far. Colonel (retd) Beenu Sharma of the Military Nursing Service, Rishikesh mayor Shambhu Paswan and others attended the programme.
