Hindus allege attacks, threats in North 24 Parganas

Fresh allegations of post-poll violence and targeted intimidation have emerged from the Amdanga Assembly constituency in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, where several Hindu families have accused Islamist groups of carrying out attacks, vandalism, and threats following the recently concluded Assembly elections.

Residents from multiple villages in North 24 Parganas alleged that homes were damaged, women were assaulted and threatened with rape, and Hindu youths were forced to flee the area after allegedly being targeted for supporting the BJP.

Hindu families allege fear and intimidation

According to local residents, tension escalated in several pockets of the Amdanga Assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas after the declaration of election results. Hindu families claimed that groups allegedly associated with Islamist elements attacked houses and issued threats to those suspected of voting for the BJP.

Villagers alleged that homes were vandalised and family members assaulted during the violence. Several residents claimed they were warned against stepping out of their homes and accused local elements of creating an atmosphere of fear in the area.

A Hindu woman from the locality narrated the ordeal faced by her family and neighbours.

“Islamists have threatened us. We can’t go outside because of fear. They have vandalised our houses. They have threatened to murder the boys of our families as we voted for the BJP. For the last 14 years, we have been experiencing this,” she alleged.

Locals further claimed that several Hindu youths fled from villages in North 24 Parganas fearing physical attacks and possible murder threats.

Allegations of assaults on women

Residents also alleged that women in the area were assaulted and threatened during the violence. According to villagers, women faced intimidation inside their homes as attackers allegedly attempted to force families into silence through fear.

Families claimed that many affected households were now living in constant fear and demanded immediate protection from the administration.

The allegations have triggered sharp political reactions, with BJP leaders accusing the ruling dispensation of failing to protect vulnerable communities in violence-hit areas.

BJP leaders, National SC Commission member visit area

Amid growing outrage, senior BJP leader and MLA Arjun Singh visited the affected areas in North 24 Parganas on Tuesday and met families who alleged they had been attacked and threatened.

During the visit, BJP workers interacted with local residents and assured them that the matter would be raised before the administration and higher authorities.

A member of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes also visited the violence-affected areas and reportedly spoke to victims regarding the allegations of intimidation and assault.

Locals alleged that newly elected TMC MLA Kashem Siddiqui was behind the attacks and intimidation campaign in the area. However, no official response from Siddiqui regarding the allegations had emerged till the filing of this report.

Political atmosphere remains charged after Bengal Elections

The latest allegations have once again intensified concerns over post-poll violence in West Bengal, particularly in districts like North 24 Parganas, where political clashes and intimidation allegations frequently surface after elections.

The recently concluded Assembly elections witnessed a fierce contest between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress across several districts, including North 24 Parganas. Political tensions in many constituencies remained high even after the declaration of results.

The incident also comes shortly after Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal following the BJP’s electoral victory in the state. Since the formation of the new government, multiple allegations of political violence, intimidation, and attacks on party workers and supporters have continued to emerge from different districts.

Police officials have not yet issued a detailed statement regarding the allegations from North 24 Parganas, and it remains unclear whether any FIRs or arrests have been made in connection with the reported incidents.
