Officials have warned Patel that demolition proceedings may follow if he fails to submit a satisfactory reply within the stipulated time. In parallel, the civic body has also kept the option of administrative action open under municipal law. As a result, the case now carries both legal and political implications.
Nida Khan had been absconding since April 10 in connection with the Nashik TCS case. Police arrested her on May 7 from a two-storey bungalow in Naregaon. At the time of arrest, she stayed there with four relatives. Notably, investigators have since placed the property under examination due to its alleged link with Patel.
Two properties under civic scanner
The municipal corporation has identified two properties in Kausar Baug. One is a residential house where Nida Khan is believed to have stayed. The second is an office in the same locality. According to officials, both structures violate building regulations at a prima facie level.
AMC Mayor Sameer Rajurkar confirmed the notice and said, “Patel has a limited window to respond”. He added that the corporation will proceed with demolition if the explanation fails to meet legal standards and will follow due process.
Disqualification clause under review
Beyond demolition, the matter may also carry political consequences. Under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, a councillor can face disqualification if found involved in illegal construction, either directly or through family members.
However, officials clarified that no decision has been taken at this stage. The outcome will depend on the final civic inquiry report. Ultimately, the municipal House and commissioner will decide the next course of action.
Corporator’s profile and parallel controversy
Matin Majid Shaikh, popularly known as Majid Patel, serves as a first-term AIMIM corporator and is a 35-year-old businessman. His affidavit records education up to Class 7. Moreover, he has declared agricultural land worth ₹86 lakh, a non-agricultural plot in Naregaon worth ₹11 lakh, and a house valued at ₹4 lakh.
Separately, Patel has also faced controversy after an objectionable video allegedly linked to him surfaced online. For which he has denied the allegations.
The developments have triggered speculation over whether Nida Khan enjoyed some gains or protection from local power networks.
Legal intervention in court
Meanwhile, Patel has approached a local court seeking additional time to respond to the municipal notice. He has also requested protection from coercive action by the civic body. The matter is scheduled for a hearing shortly.
Overall, the case now moves on two parallel tracks. On one hand, civic authorities are pursuing alleged illegal constructions. On the other hand, the Nashik TCS investigation continues to develop, keeping administrative and political pressure firmly in place.
