Sri Lanka raises key policy rate by 100 bps to offset Gulf crisis pain


COLOMBO, May 26 : Sri Lanka raised its benchmark policy rate by 100 basis points on Tuesday as the country’s central bank looked to stem inflation and currency pressure from soaring energy prices.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka raised the overnight policy rate to 8.75 per cent from 7.75 per cent, as forecast by a Reuters poll, citing higher inflation and a depreciating rupee due to the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.u
