Spotify app down as thousands of users report streaming outage

Downdetector recorded more than 16,000 reports from users experiencing problems across the UK, according to outage tracking data

Thousands of Spotify users have encountered difficulties with the music streaming service this evening, with many reporting they are unable to access the app or play music.

Downdetector, a website that monitors service disruptions, recorded over 16,000 reports from users experiencing difficulties across the UK. The majority of issues, approximately 54%, were related to the Spotify app itself, while 18% concerned server connection troubles and a further 18% involved problems with audio streaming.

A disruption map revealed users throughout the country logging complaints about the platform, with the bulk of reports originating from London, Manchester and Glasgow.

Residents in various other cities, including Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds and Cardiff, also reported being affected by the service interruption.

Spotify subsequently confirmed the technical difficulties in a post shared on X, previously known as Twitter, reports Dublin Live.

The firm stated: “We’re aware of some issues right now with the app and are checking them out!”

The problems were not confined to the UK, with users in the United States also experiencing widespread difficulties.

Data from Downdetector indicated that more than 15,000 disruption reports were submitted in the US within a brief timeframe. Information from the platform suggested that 54% of issues were connected to the Spotify app, while others related to streaming and server connection failures.

The cause of the outage remains unknown, as does the timeframe for when full service will resume.
