Like the plains, people in Nainital city are facing a lot of hardship these days due to the soaring temperatures. On Wednesday, the city’s maximum temperature crossed past 30 degrees Celsius. Thursday’s scenario is no different with the people continuing to suffer the sweltering heat worsened by excessive humidity.
To get relief from the heat, people are being seen taking shelter under the shade of trees and buildings. Light clouds kept hovering over the sky in the day, but in the evening, the clouds dispersed due to gusty winds.
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature may increase further in the coming days. While in the beginning of May, the maximum temperature of the city hovered between the maximum 24 degrees and the minimum 16 degrees Celsius, the mercury continues to rise steadily for the past few days.
Meanwhile, cases of viral fever are being reported in worrisome numbers particularly from Dhari block of the district. Most of the residents of Babaiyad village of the block, from the elderly to the children, are now suffering from this fever. With scare healthcare facilities in the village and its surrounding areas, people are being forced to come to Haldwani for treatment.
With the situation having turned grim,
the senior medical officer Dr Sanjeev Kharkwal sent a team to set up a medical camp in Babiyad village to provide adequate healthcare to the suffering villagers.
