Singer Luke Thomas ‘taking things day by day’ after sad passing of girlfriend Ciara

Singer and frontman of the band, The Swing Cats, Luke Thomas, has opened up about coping with grief after the passing of his girlfriend Ciara

Singer and frontman of The Swing Cats, Luke Thomas, has opened up about how he has coped with grief following the passing of his girlfriend Ciara Gunning.

Ciara passed peacefully in St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Dublin, “surrounded by her family” on Monday, January 19. Her funeral took place on Friday, January 23, in St. James’ Church, Athboy.

Following her passing, Luke has returned to gigging around the country and has since spoken about how it has helped his grieving process, along with the support from friends, family and fans.

He says: “I suppose it’s been very therapeutic. I have to say. I took about a month off after Ciara’s passed, and it’s kind of something that I’m taking by day, and it’s been great to see so many gestures of goodwill”.

Speaking to The Six O’Clock Show, where Darren Kennedy and Tracy Clifford were hosting, he went on to mention his football club supporting him by donating to charity, along with hundreds of people coming up to him to shake his hand.

“Day by day, gig by gig, you’re absorbing that energy, particularly at weddings. Again, like tonight, you’re feeling the love of the room. And it kind of recharges the battery. Do you know? It kind of brings you back where you need to be, and you remember who you are, and I suppose that’s where it is”, says Luke as he is ‘keeping busy’ at the moment.

The 98FM presenter is balancing his radio duties with his gigging lineups while also spending time with his daughter Heidi, who turned 7 earlier this year.

Luke is known for his collaborations with Irish star Una Healy, with the pair performing together in February at the Carlton Hotel’s 20th anniversary, Luke’s first gig since Ciara’s passing.

He’ll also be starting his summer with a bang as the swing singer is set to open up for Michael Bublé at Malahide Castle in June.
