Sinead Kennedy opens up on husband’s plans to return to Ireland

Today Show presenter Sinead Kennedy shared a glimpse into her family’s long-term plans as she prepares to spend her summer in the family’s ‘home from home’ in Brussels, where her husband Conor lives and works

Sinéad Kennedy has opened up about her long-distance marriage with husband Conor Kirwan, revealing the couple does have a long-term plan.

The RTE star’s husband is a naval officer who works with the European Defence Agency in Brussels, and the pair have been living apart due to their busy work schedules for many years, while co-parenting their two children between Ireland and Belgium.

However, Sinead revealed the couple do have a plan, and that her husband will be moving back to Ireland, with the couple planning to settle in Cork long term.

Speaking to EVOKE, she admitted long distance was not a forever plan: ‘The long-term plan is that he’ll be moving back to Ireland. This is just a finite situation. It’s not forever. Cork is where it is at.’

And with the Today Show getting ready to finish for the summer at the end of this month, Sinead revealed she was excited to spend a few months as a family.

“I’m still on Today. I love it. It’s such a fun show. You go, you have fun, you do the show. I love it. That’s all I want,” she added:

“‘I’m taking the summer off and going to Belgium. I cannot wait. I’m going over, and we’re just gonna sit there as a four. There’ll be no flying anywhere. We’re going to sit and chill and enjoy the back garden.”

Sinead has previously opened up about making her marriage and family life with husband Conor work as they live in different countries, admitting that it has become harder, and that time together is something the couple never take for granted.

“You get used to it but it doesn’t mean you like it”, she previously told RSVP magazine.

“But when you have kids everything changes and you want to spend all your time together.”

“It is hard being apart. It is hard on him not seeing the kids everyday and it is hard on me not having him around to help or when they are asking for him. Flights back and forth also take their toll. It is exhausting for both of us in different ways, it is hard for both of us in different ways, but that is where we are at. So you try not to complain and realise we are lucky, with our family and we both do jobs that we love”, she explained.
