Sindh Approves 500 Electric Buses for Two Cities

Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon chaired an important meeting of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority board, where several decisions were taken to modernize and improve urban transport systems in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur.

During the meeting, the Sindh government approved the establishment of a modern heavy vehicle terminal for trucks, trailers, and other heavy transport vehicles outside Karachi on the Northern Bypass.

Under the project, a dedicated heavy vehicle track will also be constructed from Karachi Port to the Northern Bypass to separate heavy traffic from the city’s main roads.

Sharjeel Memon said the initiative would help reduce traffic congestion in Karachi and improve the city’s transport system. The board also approved the procurement of 500 electric buses under a public-private partnership model.

According to the plan, 450 EV buses will operate on 25 routes in Karachi, while 50 buses will run on five routes in Hyderabad. The meeting further approved the establishment of five modern EV depots across Sindh, including four in Karachi and one in Hyderabad, to support the growing electric public transport network in the province.
