Pune 14-Day Restrictions: Full Guidelines & Exemptions

Pune 14-Day Restrictions: Full Guidelines & Exemptions

Following reports that Pune has been placed under a “curfew” for a period of 14 days, there has been widespread confusion on social media.

Nevertheless, Pune Police officials have stated that a lockdown or a curfew has not been imposed in Pune, but rather some restrictive measures for a temporary period, as per Section 37 of the Maharashtra Police Act. These restrictive measures are likely to continue till June 8, 2026.

Is Pune Actually Under Curfew?

False. It has been made clear by Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar that there is no curfew, lockdown, or restriction in movement in the entire city. Citizens can go about their usual routines of commuting, shopping, and traveling.

Mostly, the misunderstanding came from the fact that many news sources and social media platforms termed the restrictions as a “14-day curfew.”

Authorities have appealed to citizens to refrain from spreading misleading information and panic in regard to bank closures or transport bans.

What Has Been Banned Under the New Restrictions?

In accordance with the existing Pune Police regulations, activities related to mass gatherings and law and order disturbances have been banned temporarily.

These include mass assemblies, processions, public meetings, protests, morchas, and other forms of gatherings.

According to reports, activities such as provocative speeches, slogan-holding, burning of effigies, and activities resulting in public disturbance are banned by the authorities.

The police have said that stern action would be taken against violators of these prohibitory orders.

Crackdown on Late-Night Eateries and Vendors

One of the most notable enforcement campaigns being launched at present is against those food establishments, street vendors, hawking centers, paan stores, and other outside vendors who have been operating during non-permitted times.

As per Pune police, many places have been experiencing crowding at night owing to eateries that have been working beyond their legal working hours.

This particular drive is not targeting any restaurant or business but is directed only against the illegal ones.

Some of the areas where there was intensified activity include FC Road, JM Road, Baner, Kothrud, Kondhwa, Katraj, and Karve Road.

What Remains Open and Allowed?

Normal daily life in Pune continues largely unchanged. Public movement remains unrestricted, and there are currently no official orders shutting down:

  • Banks
  • Offices
  • Public transport
  • Schools
  • Malls
  • Licensed restaurants
  • Hospitals
  • Essential services

The Pune Police authorities have made it clear that people are free to move around in the city without any restrictions.

Liquor outlets that are duly licensed can go ahead with their business as usual based on their permitted hours.

Are Banks Closed During the 14-Day Restriction Period?

No. Following rumors on social media suggesting that banks will remain closed during the “curfew,” the police have made it clear that no such directive has been issued. The banking operations are running smoothly in Pune.

Citizens have been informed not to circulate any claims from social media without verification.

Why Did Pune Police Impose These Restrictions?

These actions are preventive in nature and meant to help maintain crowd control, law and order, and city regulations in an important period of festivities, buildup of crowds, and increasing nighttime activities.

It seems as if the authorities are more interested in ensuring that there is no scenario wherein congestion, law and order issues, or unauthorized crowds arise.

On the other hand, Pune Municipal Corporation is also said to have deliberated on fuel conservation and limiting the use of government vehicles, although certain viral misinformation concerning this issue had to be debunked subsequently.

Why Social Media Panic Spread So Quickly

The mention of “14-day curfew” instantly created widespread panic in the online space since it triggered memories of quarantine protocols.

However, the present set of guidelines for Pune is much more limited, with its main objective being the regulation of public gatherings.

It required clarification by the police owing to misrepresentations about Pune being closed down completely.

What Citizens Should Remember

Authorities are advising residents to rely only on official police announcements and verified news sources.

As of now:

  • There is no lockdown
  • Public transport is functioning
  • Essential services remain open
  • Daily movement is allowed
  • Only certain public activities and nuisance-related gatherings are restricted

The situation remains more of a preventive administrative measure rather than an emergency shutdown.
