A video from a protest organised by members of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Dehradun is being probed after it went viral a couple of days ago on social media. In the video, a group of men can allegedly be seen threatening a girl who was passing through the area and asking her to join the protest.

The protest was held on Sunday at Clock Tower and Darshanlal Chowk against alleged rise in love Jihad and land Jihad in the district. Following the incident, police registered an FIR against unidentified persons for allegedly blocking roads and creating chaos during the demonstration.

On Tuesday, members of the Antarrashtriya Hindu Parishad met superintendent of police (City) Pramod Kumar and demanded strict action against those involved in the incident. The organisation’s vice-president Kripal Negi alleged that one of the people seen in the viral video was involved in threatening people and creating disturbances at public places. Negi claimed that despite knowing the identities of some individuals, police had registered the FIR against unidentified persons. He demanded that police name the accused in the FIR and take strict legal action against them.

Responding to the allegations, the SP said that police had already registered a case and the investigation was being conducted by the Dalanwala police station in-charge. He said that CCTV camera footage and videos from the protest were being examined to identify those involved.

“We are checking CCTV camera footage and available videos. Once the people involved are identified, their names will be brought on record and strict action will be taken,” Kumar said.

Speaking about the alleged incident involving the girl, he said that everyone has the right to protest in a democracy, but no one is allowed to take the law into their own hands. He also said police had not yet recorded the statement of the girl involved in the incident, but officers would soon speak to her and take her statement as part of the investigation.
