Pakistani Man Held for Attempting Political Asylum in Australia Through Same-Sex Marriage Plan



Federal Investigation Agency has arrested a Pakistani man accused of attempting to obtain political asylum in Australia through a planned same-sex marriage arrangement.

According to the Deputy Director of the Immigration, Shehzad Akbar, the suspect belongs to Gujranwala and was detained while attempting to travel to Sri Lanka.

Immigration officials said an examination of the suspect’s mobile phone revealed material related to political asylum applications and same-sex marriage plans linked to Australia.

Authorities further disclosed that the suspect had previously attempted to illegally enter Europe through Iran in 2019 using the “Dunki” route.

He was reportedly arrested by Greek police and deported back to Turkey. Officials added that he was also deported from the Maldives in 2022.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to paying 4 million Pakistani rupees to an Australian citizen identified as Steven Christopher to facilitate political asylum arrangements.

Investigators said the Australian national visited Pakistan in April 2026 and signed an agreement related to the alleged same-sex marriage plan.

FIA officials stated that the suspect has been handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle (AHTC) Karachi for further legal proceedings and investigation.
