Pakistani investors attend US summit to explore expansion opportunities, envoy says

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani entrepreneurs and business leaders are attending a major United States investment summit this week to explore expansion opportunities and strengthen economic ties, the US chargé d’affaires in Pakistan said on Monday.

The participation comes as Pakistani firms increasingly look beyond domestic markets for growth, seeking access to global capital, partnerships and new business opportunities amid economic challenges at home.

US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker said a delegation of 16 Pakistani investors was participating in the SelectUSA Investment Summit, taking place from May 3 to 6 in National Harbor, Maryland.

“Strong economic ties are the heart of the US-Pakistan relationship,” Baker said in a video message.

“I look forward to helping Pakistani investors expand their global footprint in the United States ….By facilitating investment, innovation, and private sector collaboration, we can create jobs, drive growth, and build long-term prosperity for both our nations.”

The SelectUSA Investment Summit, organized by the US Department of Commerce, is one of Washington’s flagship initiatives to promote foreign direct investment into the United States. This year’s event is expected to draw around 6,000 participants, including about 3,000 investors from more than 100 countries.

Pakistan and the United States maintain a significant economic relationship anchored in trade, investment and services, with the US consistently serving as Pakistan’s largest export market.

Bilateral trade in goods and services totaled over $10 billion in 2024, with goods trade alone reaching about $8.7 billion in 2025, including $5.4 billion in Pakistani exports to the United States.

Pakistan typically runs a trade surplus with the US, driven largely by textile exports, while Washington remains an important source of services, technology partnerships and foreign investment.
