Five months ago, Twisha Sharma, who lived in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, married Samarth Singh, an advocate from Bhopal. On the night of May 12, Twisha’s family learned about her death. The sudden passing of their 33-year-old daughter has raised concerns and accusations of mental abuse by her in-laws.

According to Twisha’s family, she called her mother at 10:05 pm on the night of the incident and talked about her struggles. Twisha talked about the harassment she experienced at her husband’s home.
“During the call, she suddenly hung up when her husband came into the room,” said Twisha’s brother, Major Harshit Sharma, an officer in the Indian Army. “After that, our family tried repeatedly to reach her, Samarth, and her mother-in-law Giribala Singh, but nobody picked up,” he said. Ten minutes later, at 10:15 pm, Giribala Singh finally answered. Twisha’s family asked her to check on Twisha right away.
Five minutes later, at 10:20 pm, the family was told that Twisha was “not breathing.” Twisha was taken to the hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival. The family claims there was a delay in getting medical care, even though the hospital was only 10 minutes away.
Allegations of Mental Harassment, Domestic Violence
Major Sharma states that his sister experienced mental abuse and domestic violence. He claims she was also pressured into ending her pregnancy.
“During her pregnancy, my sister wanted to keep the baby. However, she allegedly faced intense pressure and coercion from her husband and in-laws to terminate it. They constantly questioned her character and claimed the child was illegitimate. Under ongoing mental pressure and family intimidation, the pregnancy was ended,” he said.
