Met Éireann hints at possible ‘heatwave’ temperatures in latest weekly forecast

Met Éireann have given their predictions for the possibility of a heatwave, after predictions of rain and unsettled conditions, Ireland could be seeing drier days

After days of unsettled weather and occasional rain showers, Met Éireann has predicted some drier spells ahead, with temperatures potentially reaching 25 degrees.

The national forecaster has reported that the next few days will see rain and further unsettled conditions, while hinting at the possibility of warmer days ahead.

The Irish meteorological service posted this morning: “Becoming warmer from Tuesday onwards but continuing unsettled for a time with further rain and showers. There is potential for longer dry spells towards the end of the working week.”

While early in the week will see an array of conditions, the main focus is a potential heatwave which is set to hit from May 21st, with the highest temperatures of 25 degrees to hit on May 25th

Netweather.tv suggests the mercury could climb to around 21 degrees on Thursday, May 21st and Friday, May 22nd, before rising further to 23 degrees on Saturday, May 23rd.

The warm spell could then continue into the following week, with current charts indicating highs of around 23C on both Monday, May 25 and Tuesday, May 26, before easing by the middle of the week, reports The Irish Mirror.

Ireland will have to get through a blustery week to see out these warmer conditions, which are supposed to begin on May 19th.

The forecaster has also released a weekend forecast, which could be the last wet one before some sunshine next weekend.

Saturday, May 16th, will see “more persistent rain will push into the west and southwest early on Saturday, gradually spreading eastwards across the country through the day.

“A clearance to sunny spells and isolated showers will move into western areas by evening. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in light to moderate west to southwest winds.

“Rain in the east will clear into the Irish Sea early on Saturday night, with clear spells and scattered showers following from the west. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in a light westerly breeze.”

It will be “largely dry at first” on Sunday, May 17th, and things have slightly improved, “with sunny spells and just the odd shower.”
