Keralam: ED officers allegedly came under attack by CPI(M) cadre after raids at Pinarayi Vijayan’s residence

Violence and intolerance are inseparable elements of Communists, and today it once again came into full public view in front of cameras when CPM goons allegedly attacked Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers in Kerala after raids concluded at the Kozhikode residence of Mohammed Riaz and at Pinarayi Vijayan’s houses in Dharmadam, Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram.

There is unconfirmed news that Pinarayi Vijayan has not been interrogated so far. However, Veena Vijayan has already been interrogated. It was an eight-and-a-half-hour-long raid.

Since CPM workers were in a violent posture and were shouting slogans, some of them declared that they would not permit the ED officers, including a lady officer, to move out.

When the ED vehicles came out from Pinarayi’s house, CPM goons attacked them. Car glasses were broken. A driver suffered an eye injury and was hospitalised. Goons attacked the car with iron rods and bricks. At last, the cars managed to get out of the violent mob. The vehicle glasses were broken and the they suffered heavy damage.

The entire violence took place in the presence of senior CPM leaders such as State Secretary M.V. Govindan and Kadakampally Surendran.

After the ED officers left, Pinarayi Vijayan came out and addressed the mob. He said the raid was a political vendetta. He said: “Let us move together.” He saluted the goons with his clenched fist.

It appeared once again that the police were hesitant to act against CPM workers. Even IPS officers look to be scared. Later, the goons took shelter in the CPM Area Committee office, and the leaders guarded the entrance. They made the arrogant statement that they would not allow the police to enter the office.

CPM district secretary Joy told the media that they would not permit the police to enter the party office until their last breath. He added that his party workers did not resort to violence, but that it was carried out by fans of Pinarayi who are not party workers; hence, they cannot control them.

This violent anarchy witnessed in the capital city proves that new Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala is either an absolute failure or supports CPM. Alternatively, he is scared to deploy the police against CPM goons. What the city witnessed was exactly like the goon-driven politics of Mamata Banerjee.

The CPM goons started congregating before Pinarayi’s house in the morning itself. Therefore, it is really a shame that the police could not foresee violence when the ED officers came out. The Home Ministry has cut a sorry figure before the people of Kerala.

Violent comrades destroyed the flex boards of Congress and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in Dharmadam. They staged angry and noisy demonstrations against the ED raids. The officers left under stringent police escort. The officers did not speak to media persons; they said they would issue a press release.

Reacting to these developments in Kerala, CPI(M) held demonstrations at the ED headquarters in Delhi against the raid on former Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s residence. The protest was led by CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby. During the protest, Delhi Police detained several demonstrators, including senior leaders Brinda Karat, Ashok Dhawale, Mariam Dhawale, Vijoo Krishnan, Vikram Singh and Anurag Saxena, along with more than one hundred protesters.

Addressing the gathering, MA Baby termed the ED action a politically motivated act of vendetta and alleged that despite courts repeatedly observing that Pinarayi Vijayan has no connection with the Exalogic case, the investigation and political targeting against him continue unabated. He further claimed that Pinarayi Vijayan was now being targeted even for being Veena Vijayan’s father.
