So far, the month of May has been colder than it normally is, with forecaster Met Éireann describing temperatures as ‘rather chilly’ – here is the latest update
Temperatures will remain a little below average for May over the next few days, and frost is even possible in some areas.
The national forecaster is warning that it will get as cold as 1 °C tonight, describing it as ‘rather chilly’, while temperatures will reach as high as 15 °C during the day.
Overall, it will be generally changeable with somewhat unsettled conditions across the country.

Today, Saturday, May 9th
Generally dry today with sunny spells developing for most, but cool and a little breezy. Cloudier conditions will affect southern counties, with patchy rain or drizzle possible in the south-west, but the cloud will tend to clear later. Highest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees in mostly moderate north to north-east winds, fresh near coasts.
Dry tonight with long clear spells, with just the chance of an odd shower near coasts. Rather chilly with lowest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees, with a touch of frost possible in sheltered spots, as northerly winds ease mainly light to moderate overnight.
Sunday, May 10th
Mostly dry tomorrow with sunny spells. Cloud amounts will tend to increase from the northwest as the day goes on, though a few isolated showers are possible, mainly in western and northwestern coastal areas. Highest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees in light to moderate northerly winds.
Cloud will continue to feed down over the country from the northwest on Sunday night. A scattering of light showers will affect mainly Ulster and North Connacht. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 8 degrees in light to moderate north to northwest winds.
Monday, May 11th
Mainly cloudy to begin on Monday with scattered light showers. Brightening up as the day goes on with sunny spells developing. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees, in light to moderate north to northwest winds. Monday night will bring variable cloud, clear breaks and isolated light showers at first. Cloud will increase overnight with patchy rain and drizzle moving into the northwestern parts. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees in light to moderate westerly winds.
Tuesday, May 12th
Cloud, along with patchy rain and drizzle, will continue to extend southeastwards over the country on Tuesday morning. Brighter, fresher conditions with sunny spells, along with a few showers, some possibly heavy in the north, will follow from the northwest through the morning and afternoon. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees with light to moderate westerly winds increasing moderate, occasionally fresh, west to northwest in the afternoon.
Wednesday, May 13th
Cool and blustery on Wednesday with a mix of sunshine and showers, some of them heavy. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees in a moderate to fresh and gusty northwest wind.
