Hyderabad-Pune-Mumbai High-Speed Rail Corridor DPR Ready, Land Acquisition Begins

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Hyderabad-Pune-Mumbai High-Speed Rail Corridor has been completed, Railway officials informed the Telangana government during a recent review meeting. The ambitious project, spanning approximately 671 km, aims to establish Hyderabad as a major hub for high-speed rail connectivity in southern India. The development marks a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure expansion plans.

Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao chaired the review meeting to assess the progress of proposed high-speed rail corridor projects with Hyderabad as the central junction. During the meeting, officials discussed the land requirements and infrastructure needs for multiple high-speed rail corridors connecting the state capital to major metropolitan cities. The Chief Secretary directed officials to prepare comprehensive proposals in coordination with the Union Railway Ministry to expedite the project implementation.

For the Hyderabad-Pune-Mumbai corridor, land acquisition will be required across approximately 93 km stretch within Telangana territory. Railway authorities have identified two key locations for establishing railway depots to support the high-speed rail operations. The proposed depot sites include Kokapet and Shamshabad, both strategically located near Hyderabad to facilitate efficient maintenance and operational activities for the high-speed trains.

In addition to the Mumbai corridor, officials also reviewed the Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Hyderabad-Chennai High-Speed Rail corridors. These projects may require land acquisition across approximately 123 km within the state. The multi-corridor approach aims to position Hyderabad as a crucial node in India’s expanding high-speed rail network, connecting the city to three major economic centers in the country.

The Chief Secretary emphasized the need for seamless coordination between various government departments to ensure smooth project execution. Officials were specifically instructed to work collaboratively on DPR preparation, land acquisition processes, connectivity planning, and overall infrastructure development. The coordinated approach is expected to minimize delays and address potential challenges in the early stages of project implementation.

The state government has prioritized inter-departmental coordination to facilitate the timely completion of these infrastructure projects. Officials have been tasked with maintaining regular communication with the Union Railway Ministry to align state-level preparations with national railway development plans. The high-speed rail corridors are expected to significantly reduce travel time between major cities and boost economic activity across the region.
