Saleh Asif a 26-year-old young Pakistani-origin made Pakistan proud on a global scale when Elon Musk’s company SpaceX offered to acquire his IT company, “Cursor”, for $60 billion (17 trillion Pakistani rupees). This news became a source of pride not only for Saleh Asif but for the entire nation. Starting his journey from the streets of Karachi and establishing his identity in Silicon Valley the global hub of technology. Saleh Asif, a remarkably intelligent individual, received his early education at Nixor College in Karachi. During his early education, he developed an interest in computer science and programming, which eventually took him to the United States. There, he graduated from the world-renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). While still studying, he stepped into the field of technology, founded his own company, and rapidly elevated it to become one of the leading IT companies in the world. The company’s flagship product, “Cursor”, is an advanced AI-powered code editing tool. Today, this tool is used by thousands of companies and millions of developers worldwide, including major brands such as NVIDIA, Adobe, Uber, and Shopify. Its annual revenue has exceeded $1 billion, placing it among the fastest-growing AI startups globally.
Although Silicon Valley in the United States is considered one of the world’s leading IT hubs where major tech companies are born and have the power to reshape the global economy. It has long been known for the strong presence and dominance of individuals of Indian origin in the IT sector. The prominent roles of Indian-origin professionals in companies like Google and Microsoft are evidence of this. However, Pakistani youth Saleh Asif has raised Pakistan’s flag high in Silicon Valley, making every Pakistani proud.
In today’s modern era, technology and digital skills have become the key to success. Information technology and artificial intelligence (AI) have revolutionized every field. While these technologies have many benefits, their negative aspects are also emerging. AI can be a blessing for humanity, but if not used carefully, it can lead to dangerous consequences. There are concerns that AI might one day replace human intellect, potentially increasing unemployment.
The Government of Pakistan is focusing significantly on the IT sector, which has the potential to boost exports. India’s IT exports have exceeded $200 billion, whereas Pakistan’s IT exports remain limited to around $3-4 billion. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on visit to China few months ago visited the headquarters of Huawei, and signed a MoU with Huawei and Pakistan’s Ministry of Science and Technology. Huawei’s chairman offered to provide free training to 200,000 Pakistanis in fields such as E-governance, digital banking, telecommunications, and artificial intelligence. It is expected that when these young individuals return after acquiring advanced IT skills from China, they will not only revolutionize Pakistan’s IT sector but also significantly boost the country’s IT exports.
Saleh Asif’s success is not just his personal achievement but a matter of pride for the entire nation. It teaches young people that no matter how difficult the circumstances may be, with determination, hard work, and perseverance, paths eventually open up. Saleh Asif is a shining example for Pakistan’s youth. His story proves that reaching Silicon Valley from the streets of Karachi is not just a dream but an achievable reality provided one embraces hard work, dedication, and self-confidence. Young individuals like Saleh Asif represent the bright face of Pakistan, sending a message to the world that this country is not just a collection of problems but a treasure trove of immense talent. I request Government of Pakistan to invite Saleh Asif to the country, honor him with prestigious civil award for his commendable achievement and seek his guidance and recommendations for the development of Pakistan’s IT sector so that a technological revolution can also take place in Pakistan.
