Alex De Minaur moved into the third round after his second-round opponent Alexander Blockx withdrew from the tournament due to an ankle sprain.

1510 GAUFF AND OSAKA THROUGH TO SECOND ROUND

Defending champion Coco Gauff beat fellow American Taylor Townsend 6-4 6-0 to cruise into the second round.

Naomi Osaka saw off the challenge of Germany’s Laura Siegemund with a 6-3 7-6(3) victory.

1346 INJURED NORRIE RETIRES

Britain’s 20th seed Cameron Norrie retired soon after taking a medical timeout in the second set for what looked like a rib injury.

It marked the first time that the 30-year-old had retired from any match above the ITF level.

Sixth seed Daniil Medvedev fell at the first hurdle after a surprise defeat by Australian wildcard Adam Walton, who stunned the 30-year-old 6-2 1-6 6-1 1-6 6-4 to advance.

Belarusian top seed Aryna Sabalenka began her quest for a maiden clay Grand Slam title with a 6-4 6-2 win over Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.
