KARACHI : At least eight people have died in Karachi due to suspected drug overdoses and the ongoing spell of extreme heat, rescue officials confirmed on Monday.
According to rescue sources, three individuals lost their lives due to excessive drug use, while four others died during treatment at medical facilities across the city.
The rescue report further stated that one person died as a result of the intense heat, as temperatures continue to soar in Karachi. Authorities also recovered three bodies from areas including Manghopir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed and Defence Phase 8.
In addition, three more deaths were reported during treatment in different localities, including Clifton, Liaquatabad and along the Super Highway.
Separately, a body was recovered near Tayyaba Mosque on SPARCO Road in Baldia Town. Eyewitnesses indicated that the individual likely died due to the severity of the heatwave gripping the city.
Officials have urged residents to exercise caution, avoid substance abuse, and take necessary precautions during extreme weather conditions, including staying hydrated and limiting outdoor exposure.
