The eyewitnesses said that the dumper was traveling at a high speed on a steep slope and the driver lost control of the vehicle. After the accident, the dumper stopped after hitting a nearby wall; the driver then fled, abandoning the vehicle. The body was identified by his nephew Jitendra Sahni.

As soon as the incident was reported, anger spread in the area, and a large number of people gathered at the scene. The angry mob began a protest by placing the body on the road and blocking Kanwali Road. Tyres were burnt too. The toad remained blocked, disrupting traffic for about an hour and a half.

Upon receiving the information, police and administrative teams arrived at the scene. Police from several police stations attempted to pacify the crowd. Police said that they are on the lookout for the absconding driver.  “He will be arrested soon,” said the city police chief.
