Baby from ‘The Snapper’ welcomes her own baby 33 years on from film’s release

Alannagh McMullan played newborn Georgina Curley in the Irish cult classic, which was released in 1993 – she has called the film her good luck charm as she welcomed her second child

Alannagh McMullan, who played the baby in the 1993 film The Snapper, has welcomed her second child 33 years on from the film’s release.

The cult classic, starring Colm Meaney, Tina Kellegher, Ruth McCabe and Brendan Gleeson, follows the story of teenager Sharon Curley navigating an unexpected pregnancy.

Alannagh has called the film her “good luck charm” as it was playing on TV over both weekends she welcomed her children.

She gave birth to her second child, a baby boy named Jamie, on Sunday at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, Dublin.

“The weekend I had my first baby, The Snapper was on TV and then again, this Friday, it was on TV,” she told RTE News.

“This little man arrived, so it’s obviously my good luck charm.”

Alannagh said it’s great to have footage of herself so young and she can now see the resemblance between herself and her own children.

“I used to have the video [of The Snapper scene] and I used to watch it. I definitely was too young to be watching it, but I’d watch it on repeat, and just replay myself all the time,” she said.

“But it was amazing to see at the weekend as well because there are so many resemblances of myself now that I see in him and in our first baby.”

She added: “It’s just a really cool memory to have to see yourself being born, even though it wasn’t real. I think I was covered in Vaseline and food colouring at the time, is what I was told.

“It’s a full-circle moment that I was born in Holles Street and I was the baby in The Snapper and now they’ve another little baby born by The Snapper.”

The National Maternity Hospital shared the news of Jamie’s arrival in a post on Instagram. Sharing a snap of Alannagh and Jamie with the Holles Street staff, they wrote: “We had a full circle moment at The National Maternity Hospital in Dublin last night!

“In 1993 Alannagh McMullan made her acting debut as baby Georgina when Sharon Curley gave birth in Roddy Doyle’s film The Snapper. Fast forward to 2026 and Alannagh has welcomed her own little star with the safe arrival of baby Jamie at the NMH. Congratulations to Alannagh and Ross on their new leading roles as parents to gorgeous baby Jamie. “Pictured are Alannagh and Jamie with some of the cast and crew of the NMH!”
