We sat down with the Sculpted by Aimee founder and makeup artist to pick her brains on all things beauty – and we reveal the one product she’d “be buried in” plus the biggest misconception about mature skin
Sometimes it’s the smallest tricks that can make all the difference to how makeup sits, and who better to pick the brains of when it comes to all things beauty than makeup artist and founder of Sculpted By Aimee, Aimee Connolly. RSVP Live recently sat down with Aimee to discuss all things skincare and makeup, getting her top tips for application, as well as the best products for mature skin.
A gorgeous base may prove a staple in many an everyday makeup bag, but undoubtedly one question on many people’s lips is just how to stop foundation from settling into fine lines as skin ages. The key, says Aimee, is in finding the right base to complement your skin type.
Skin prep, of course, is also essential, with products that add hydration and help to reintroduce plumpness being a great way to keep a base looking even. The Sculpted by Aimee Hydra Tint Moisturising Tinted Serum (€25.00 from ASOS) offers a sheer coverage that’s enriched with hyaluronic acid to intensely hydrate while offering a plumped appearance.

Users may also wish to check out Aimee’s current go-to from the Sculpted By Aimee range – the recently-launched €40.99 Cream Cushion Foundation which can be purchased at ASOS. Boasting a K-beauty-inspired formula, it cleverly combines silky, stretch-fit polymers with a fine mesh applicator to offer a buildable yet breathable coverage that’s ideal for year-round wear.
One ASOS reviewer said of the product: “Unbelievable. Well what can I say, I am in shock! I cannot believe how good this product is, I would recommend it to everyone, didn’t feel like I had any makeup on, definitely worth a try.”

It is worth noting that another found they used the product up fast, writing: “I really like this foundation but it runs out very quickly.” Less can also often be more as we age, with lighter products giving the skin a fresher appearance. Whilst powder can still be a great addition to a routine, it’s worth selectively using it on certain areas says Amy, as heavy bases can end up gathering.
Building a new beauty routine can prove costly – and it can be tricky to know where to splurge and where to save – but Aimee says buyers should spend where they feel its most relevant to them. The makeup artist shares that lipglosses, for example, are often more impulse buys that get used a lot, whereas anything around the skin – such as skincare and foundation – we often want a lot of trust in as it’s a big part of the face.
Whilst many with mature skin may initially think of their skincare as the one product they wouldn’t be without, Aimee says a cream blush is also a great everyday buy, saying: “I will be buried in it.” She reveals that the cream texture is amazing on textured skin and skin that’s losing elasticity, plus it adds a glow.
The brand’s Cream Luxe Blush is €21.00 at Brown Thomas and boasts a radiant finish that’s super easy to blend. Alternatively, Rare Beauty offers the Stay Vulnerable Melting Blush at Space NK in a variety of shades priced at €27.00 each.
While common beauty concerns among Aimee’s more mature clients include under-eye concealer creasing and losing coverage quicker around the centre of face, the makeup artist says there are plenty of simple tricks that can help the face appear more lifted for those wanting to achieve this look. This includes brushing brows slightly upwards to draw the eye up.
Aimee also says cream blush and highlighter add life to the face. The Sculpted By Aimee Liquid Lights Highlight (€21.00, Brown Thomas) doesn’t have harsh glitter, making it ideal for a more subtle glowy look.
The founder shares that one common misconception about mature skin is that ‘you have to open a rule book at a certain age’. While many may think they shouldn’t wear matte or shimmer eyeshadows, for example, Aimee says: “Anyone can wear makeup that makes them feel good.”
A great example of a product some mature beauty lovers leave out of their routine is lip liner, but Aimee says not forgetting the lip shape can make the ‘biggest difference.’ For those cautious about using liner, she suggests getting a neutral option that’s similar to the lip shade to give a more subtle look – we like the KIKO Milano Smart Fusion Lip Pencil 0.9g for a budget-friendly option (available at LookFantastic in various shades) with prices starting from €3.44.
Those in the market for new skincare may wish to check out the Sculpted By Aimee CloudCream, which Aimee says is suitable for all age groups and contains ceramide to help repair the skin barrier. It’s ‘like a hug for the skin’, she says, as it offers ‘delicious hydration and comfort’ before makeup application.
Skincare enthusiasts can currently try the product for €16.00 at ASOS in a mini size, before committing to the full-sized bottle. Of course, we couldn’t let Aimee go without finding out her non-negotiable products, which she lists as a good cleanser that actually cleans the skin, a decent moisturiser that protects, and of course, that all-important SPF.
