“Abhishek Banerjee Plotted It, We Will Respond”: Arjun Singh on Killing of Suvendu Adhikari’s Aide

The political situation in West Bengal heated up sharply on Thursday after BJP leader and former MP Arjun Singh accused Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee of being behind the killing of Chandranath Rath, a close aide and personal secretary to senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.

Rath shot dead yesterday night in Madhyamgram, located in the North 24 Parganas district. Investigators suspect this was a planned and targeted attack.
The murder has escalated the already tense post-election climate in the state, where sporadic violence and political clashes have persisted since the BJP’s significant electoral win ended the TMC’s 15-year rule.

In a strong statement against Banerjee, Arjun Singh claimed there was direct political involvement in the killing. “Abhishek Banerjee has orchestrated this murder. They want to send a message that even though they not in power, they are still a force to reckoned with,” ANI said. “They are fools; they will get their answer,” he warned.
Singh added, “If this is post-poll violence or done by Abhishek Banerjee, it is a matter of investigation. This is a planned murder where a sharpshooter did the job. Abhishek Banerjee has some police officials who do this only. This is Abhishek Banerjee’s doing,” reiterating his claims on Thursday. There has been no response to these allegations from either the TMC or Abhishek Banerjee.
