The National Testing Agency (NTA) has cancelled the NEET (UG) 2026 exam. The exam was held on May 3, 2026, following controversy surrounding a paper leak. Following this, the NTA decided to cancel the exam. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the agency said that the NEET UG exam, scheduled for May 3, 2026, will now be rescheduled. The new exam dates will be announced soon.
Investigation of the case handed over to the CBI
The NTA stated that this decision follows a press release dated May 10, 2026. According to the agency, on May 8, the exam-related matters were referred to central agencies for independent investigation and necessary action. Subsequently, inputs and investigation reports received from central investigative agencies and law enforcement agencies were reviewed. A CBI investigation has also been ordered into the paper leak.
The agency stated that this step was taken to maintain transparency in the examination system and ensure a fair and credible examination. According to the NTA, the NEET UG 2026 exam will now be rescheduled. The new exam date, admit card release schedule, and other important information will be released soon on the agency’s official website and through other official channels. The NTA has appealed to students, parents, and the general public to rely only on official information.
More than 45 people detained so far
The Rajasthan Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) has detained more than 45 people in connection with the NEET paper leak case. Raids and interrogations are ongoing in several states. As of Monday, 13 suspects had been detained in this case.
2.2 million students took part in the NEET exam
Around 2.2 million students took part in the NEET exam this year. The Rajasthan Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) is now investigating two major angles in the paper leak case. First, the paper may have been leaked during the printing of the exam question paper and during its delivery to the press. Second, investigating agencies suspect that the paper may have been leaked by someone involved in setting the paper. Given the seriousness of the matter, the Central Government has handed over the investigation of this case to the CBI.
How did a guess paper lead to a leak controversy?
It’s worth noting that just a day ago, Aaj Tak raised questions about the NEET UG 2026 exam. This time, the controversy involved an alleged guess paper, which was being questioned by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It’s claimed that a guess paper was distributed to students before the exam, in which approximately 600 out of 720 questions were identical to the actual exam.
This claim, which surfaced after the NEET UG exam held on May 3, has raised concerns among millions of students and parents. Given the seriousness of the matter, the Rajasthan Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) has launched an investigation. According to sources, based on inputs from the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the SOG conducted a major operation in Dehradun, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu, detaining 13 suspects.
A career counselor associated with a renowned coaching institute in Sikar is also said to be among those detained. Investigating agencies suspect that the alleged guess paper was distributed to selected students two days before the exam. Initial investigations indicate that a large number of questions in the question paper match the alleged paper. The Special Investigation Team (SOG) is now investigating whether this was a mere coincidence or part of an organized leak or rigging of the exam.
150 questions worth 600 marks were identical to those in the paper!
An investigation by the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) has revealed that the guess paper contained approximately 410 questions. It is being claimed that approximately 150 of these questions, totaling 600 marks, were identical to those asked in the NEET UG 2026 exam. The NEET UG exam carries a total of 720 marks, with each question carrying 4 marks. Therefore, the discovery of such a large number of questions is considered extremely serious. According to sources involved in the investigation, the alleged ‘question bank’ is linked to a young man currently pursuing MBBS at a medical college in Kerala.
