Met Eireann warn of ‘changeable and mixed’ conditions as temperatures drop


The weather has taken a turn from the sunny and warm conditions we became accustomed to during April as temperatures will fall and unsettled weather is on the way

Met Eireann have warned of mixed conditions as temperatures turn unseasonably cool.

After a sunny and warm April it looks like May isn’t starting off quite so nice as showers, drizzle and rain will spread through the country in the coming days.

In their overview for the week, Met Eireann have said: “Becoming more mixed and changeable from Thursday with outbreaks of rain and more frequent showers possible. Quite cool for the time of year.”

Here’s the full forecast.

Tuesday 5th May

This morning will be mainly cloudy with limited sunny spells. Scattered showers in the north and west will move southwards through the day. Showers will become confined to southern areas this evening with sunny spells developing elsewhere. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in light northerly winds.

Tonight will be largely dry with clear spells and isolated showers, mainly in the south and northeast. A chilly night with lowest temperatures of 1 to 6 degrees, coldest over the northern half of the country, in a light northerly or variable breeze.

Wednesday 6th May

Wednesday will bring a good deal of dry weather with a few sunny spells, though scattered showers will occur too, mainly over the south, east and northeast. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in light southerly or variable winds.

Remaining dry for most with scattered showers and a few clear spells overnight. Chilly with lowest temperatures of 1 to 6 degrees in a light southerly or variable breeze.

Thursday 7th May

A generally dry start on Thursday with sunny spells. However, it will turn cloudier in the west and northwest through the day with patchy light rain and drizzle developing. Scattered showers will develop elsewhere. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly winds.

Cloud and patches of light rain will spread southeastwards across the country on Thursday night, with clear spells following from the northwest. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees in light southwest winds.

Friday 8th May

Quite cloudy to start on Friday with a few patches of rain and drizzle. Sunny spells and scattered showers will develop through the afternoon, with the potential for some heavy downpours. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees with light to moderate westerly winds veering northwesterly through the day.

Saturday 9th May

There is some uncertainty in the details but current indications suggest that Saturday will be a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain. Highest temperatures of just 10 to 13 degrees in moderate north to northeast winds.
