There will be plenty of dry weather, but no sign of warm summer sunshine just yet as Met Eireann says conditions will be “cool for the time of year” in its latest update

Met Eireann says temperatures will be “cool for the time of year” in it’s latest weather update.

There will be plenty of dry weather, with the odd patch of rain at times, as May gets underway.

Today (Sunday May 3) will see a mix of sunny spells and rain.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: “Mostly cloudy at first today with outbreaks of rain, drizzle and mist in places.

“Some limited brighter breaks along with scattered showers will develop this afternoon, some heavy with a chance of isolated thunderstorms in parts of the south and west.

“Highest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees with light to moderate northerly breezes.

“The showers will gradually ease tonight, becoming isolated overnight. Patches of mist and fog will develop. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees with light northerly breezes.”

Monday (May 4) will be a mainly dry and cloudy day with some possible light rain.

Met.ie says: “Monday will be a drier day overall with patches of mist or fog at first and well-scattered mainly light showers. There’ll be a fair amount of cloud, but bright or sunny intervals will develop too, especially from afternoon. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees with light northerly breezes.

“Monday night will be mainly dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells along with some patches of mist or fog. A few showers are possible in the northwest. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 8 degrees, with light northwesterly breezes.”

Tuesday (May 5) will see similar weather conditions:

“Tuesday morning will be mostly cloudy with patchy light rain or drizzle moving southeastwards. Through the afternoon and evening, any patchy rain or drizzle will clear to the southeast.

“Bright or sunny spells will follow from the northwest. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees, highest in the south, with light to moderate northerly breezes.

“Tuesday night will be dry with clear spells and some patches of mist or fog. Lowest temperature of 1 to 6 degrees with light variable breezes.”

Wednesday (May 6) will be “dry in most areas with bright or sunny spells. Some showers or longer spells of rain will develop over Ulster and northeast Leinster. It will be cool with highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees, coolest in Ulster, with a light to moderate northerly breeze.”

Looking ahead to the remainder of the week, Thursday (May 7) will start off dry, but rain will develop and spread throughout the day, while Friday (May 8) will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain in parts of the country, with highs of 10 to 13 degrees.
