2012-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Ashish Chauhan assumed charge as the new District Magistrate of Dehradun on Monday. His appointment comes as part of a recent administrative reshuffle in Uttarakhand.
Originally from Rajasthan, Chauhan has pursued higher education in History and also holds a PhD degree. Before taking charge in Dehradun, he served as District Magistrate of Pauri. In 2025, he was shifted from Pauri and appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) and Director of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department.
Known for his active and field-oriented working style, Chauhan earned appreciation during his tenure in Pauri for personally visiting remote villages, often late at night, to understand and address the concerns of local residents. He has built a reputation as an officer who prefers direct interaction with the public and remains actively engaged on the ground. Reports describing him as a field-focused administrator have highlighted this approach.
His appointment as Dehradun DM is being viewed as part of the state government’s wider administrative realignment aimed at strengthening governance and field-level administration.
